Dyson completed his 200th league appearance for Huddersfield Town in 2000-01 and was awarded a testimonial year in recognition of his long service with the Terriers. A versatile defender he enjoyed a regular partnership alongside Chris Lucketti in the heart of the defence at a time when the team looked to be pulling away from the relegation zone.
An assured approach to the game, some strong tackling and good distribution skills made him an important member of the squad. Always capable of scoring at set pieces, he netted twice during the season.
Dyson was released at the end of the 2001-02 season but subsequently signed a three-month contract in August 2002 that was subsequently extended on a monthly basis.
