This hard-tackling midfield man returned to Lincoln City in the summer of 2000 as youth development officer but was pressed into first team action as a result of an early-season injury crisis. John battled hard in the centre of the park being used on occasions as a man-marker. He remained part of the first-team squad until the end of February when he went back to full-time coaching.
