Having spent the 1999-2000 campaign developing in the reserves at Reading, John stepped up to make his senior debut in the Worthington Cup First Round first leg tie against Leyton Orient.
He enjoyed a short run in the first team when injuries ruled out Barry Hunter and Adrian Williams before losing his place when Adrian Whitbread arrived on loan.
The stocky central defender joined Leyton Orient in January 2004 with a contract to June 2006.
It was extended to June 2007 in February 2006.
John joined Brentford in July 2007 with a two-year contract which was cancelled in January 2008.
