At the age of 40 and over six years after his last senior appearance, John was re-registered in December 2001 as cover for Brighton's keeper Michels Kuipers following an injury to young reserve, Will Packham.
John, who was employed as Albion's kit man, fulfilled the same back-up role in September 2003.
When he originally joined the Seagulls in 1986, he had been working as a taxi driver in Canvey Island.
