A graduate of the successful Crewe Alexandra Academy scheme, John featured in a handful of games at the beginning of 2000-01 but was then sidelined by injuries.
He eventually recovered in the New Year and in March he went on loan to Unibond League outfit Hyde United.
John joined Macclesfield Town in August 2011 on non-contract terms before agreeing a deal until January 2012.
