Gamble joined Reading from League of Ireland club Cork City in August 2000 and gave some impressive performances in the reserve and youth teams.
He made his senior debut when coming off the subs' bench for the final 15 minutes of the Worthington Cup first round first leg tie against Leyton Orient and made a couple more appearances later in the season before being loaned out to Crawley Town in March to gain some regular first-team football.
A tenacious midfield player with plenty of skill on the ball, he featured regularly for the Republic of Ireland at Under-18 level during the 2000-01 campaign.
