A hardworking wing-half, Jimmy broke in to the Newcastle senior XI just as the Second World War loomed on the horizon. Having taken part in the D-Day landings, he later became part of the United team that won promotion from the Second Division in 1948.
Jimmy also played for Kilsyth Emmet and Coltness (amateur).
