Surprisingly good on the ground for one so tall, Jimmy has always possessed the ability to succeed but his progress at Torquay United has sometimes been hampered by a suspect temperament. However he emerged with a more mature, focused attitude in 2000-01 and this resulted in a series of commanding performances in the second half of the season. He developed a fine understanding in the centre of defence with the experienced Lee Russell and it came as no surprise when Jimmy picked up the Gulls' 'Player of the Season' award.
