Jim Whitley

Whitley was not in the first-team picture at all for Manchester City in 2000-01 and spent virtually the whole of the season out on loan.

He began at Norwich City where he did a great job, even when asked to play out of position in a wide-left role, and scored an excellent goal in the 3-1 win at Stockport County. He then enjoyed a spell at Swindon Town at the turn of the year where he looked promising in the centre of the park but returned to Maine Road after injuring a shoulder. Finally he joined Second Division Northampton Town in February remaining until the end of the season, he was again effective, mostly playing at right back.

Essentially a neat and tidy midfielder, he is best employed in a central role from where his busy style ensures that the opposition seldom get time to settle on the ball, although clearly he is a very versatile player.

Whitley, who is the elder brother of Jeff Whitley, extended his contract at Wrexham to June 2005 in July 2004.
