Rodwell previously played for Nuneaton Borough and Hednesford Town. A solid no-nonsence centre-half, as he moved from Halesown Town in August 1995, he was the second-longest serving Rushden player as the entered the Football League. Although featuring in much of the first half of the season, Rodwell was transfer listed in January 2002.

He joined Boston United to aid their promotion to the Football League before returning to the Conference with Farnborough.
