After being excluded from the Ipswich Town starting line-up for the opening game of 2000-01, Jermaine was brought into the side for the next game and kept his place for the remainder of the campaign, missing only one game.
He mostly played on the right-hand side of midfield, linking well with Fabian Wilnis down the flank, but his best performances came when he replaced Jim Magilton in central midfield and really controlled the game, spraying passes all around the pitch.
He showed his potential with two fine goals - a one-two with Marcus Stewart on the edge of the box followed by a low drive at Leeds United and a rocket of a shot against Coventry City after picking up a loose ball some 25 yards out from goal.
Jermaine joined Leeds United in July 2004 with a three-year contract that was cancelled in June 2006.
He joined Blackpool in July 2008 with a one-year contract.
