This combative midfield player began the 2000-01 campaign at Brentford appearing alongside Paul Evans in the centre of the park but then dropped out of contention and was restricted to the occasional first team appearance. He joined Third Division Plymouth Argyle in March on non-contract forms and went on to make four league appearances for the Pilgrims but was released at the end of the season by manager Paul Sturrock. Jean-Phillipe is a former youth international for France and played in the Under-18 team which won the European Championship in 1996 featuring players such as Mikael Silvestre and Thierry Henry.

Jean-Phillipe was transfer-listed by Sheffield United in July 2003 before his contract was cancelled by mutual consent in September 2003.
