Jassim also previously played in Iraq for Al-Zawraa. He joined Macclesfield Town fifty years to the month after the only other previous Iraqi national to join a Football League club.

Youra Eshaya was spotted by Bristol Rovers whilst playing against a RAF team in 1953. At Rovers, he played mostly for their colts team, occasionly for the reserves but failed to make a senior appearance.
