Squires returned to Nationwide League football after two seasons in Scotland and was expected to be a cornerstone of the Carlisle United defence in 2000-01. However after featuring in just a handful of early season games he was stretchered off at Plymouth after tearing the ligaments in his left knee and the injury brought his campaign to a very early conclusion. A big strong central defender he is effective in the air and cool under pressure.
