James Tilley was selected on Brighton and Hove Albion's subs bench for the first time on 2 May 2015 in a League Championship game at Middlesbrough.
At the age of 16 years and 323 days, he came on late in the game to replace Jake Forster-Caskey who held the record of the club's youngest-ever player (16 years and 13 days against Yeovil Town on 8 May 2010).
James joined Grimsby Town in January 2020 with a contract to June 2021.
