Okoli previously played in Holland for FC Zwolle and in Germany for FC Augsbery, Hertha Berlin and FSV Lok Altmark Stendal. He also played in Greece for Thesprotos and had a trial at Watford. Luther Blissett was his coach at Vicarage Road, and it was the former England international's presence on the York City coaching staff that led to Okoli becoming a Minsterman. However, his Bootham Crescent contract was cancelled in March 2003.
