O'Connor again showed himself to be a fierce-tackling midfielder at Stoke City in 2000-01 and his mature and committed performances made him a natural leader on the pitch and a firm favourite of the club's supporters.
A key player for City all season the one area of his game where he needs to improve is his disciplinary record as he again accumulated a significant number of yellow cards during the campaign.
Having broken into the Republic of Ireland Under-21 side in 1999-2000, he featured regularly in 2000-01 alongside his colleague Clive Clark.
O'Connor joined West Bromwich Albion in a three-year deal before moving on to Burnley in March 2005 with a contract to June 2008.
He joined Sheffield Wednesday in July 2008 with a three-year contract that was extended to June 2012 in June 2011.
