Jack Rowley

Date of birth07 October 1918
Place of birthWolverhampton
NationalityEnglish
PositionCentre forward

Rowley signed as a teenage left wingman, scored four in his second United game to become the club's youngest hat-trick man. After WW2 he became a superb centre forward, a star of that great post-war Busby side, a cannonball shot in both feet, a leader of the line, fiercely combative, the crowd loved him. His 30 league goals in 1951-52 was a club record, his partnership with Stan Pearson producing a stack of goals. But for missing seven prime seasons due to WW2 he would surely have topped 350 goals. Won the League title (1952) and FA Cup (1949) scoring twice in the final. Possibly United's greatest ever no 9.
