Kelsey's exalted position in the pantheon of Arsenal greats is even more remarkable as the majority of his 351 games for his only league club were played during a relatively unsuccessful Gunners era. Particularly in the late fifties and early sixties, he was regarded as their only truly world-class performer. Highbury highs came early in his career when he made 25 appearances in the 1952-53 League championship winning campaign. A star of Wales' 1958 World Cup team, Kelsey won 41 caps - then a British record for a keeper.
