After being such a big hit in his early days with Bristol City Ivan struggled to make an impact in the 2000-01 campaign and after a few early season appearances he was relegated to the subs' bench. With 18 months of his contract still to run he was eventually allowed to join his former club Zimbru on loan at the beginning of January. A hard-tackling defender or midfield ball-winner he continued to be a regular for the Moldova national team.
