West Ham's tough-tackling central defender had a frustrating time with injuries in the 2000-01 campaign.
He suffered a bad knee injury at Ipswich Town in October that kept him out of action for five weeks and soon after his return he was sidelined again with a calf injury and did not play again until March.
An established international he continued to represent Croatia when fit.
