Having suffered a serious knee injury at the start of the 1999-2000 campaign, Ian made his long-awaited return for West Ham United against Newcastle United at the end of October 2000.
However, he continued to be plagued by niggling injuries that prevented him from fully establishing a place in the line-up.
He netted with a header against Manchester City but then suffered a hamstring injury at Leeds United and concussion led to his absence from the last few games.
A powerful right-sided defender, his height and strength in the tackle were badly missed by the Hammers back line when he was absent.
Ian joined Fulham in January 2004 with a contract up to June 2007 that was extended to June 2008 in October 2006.
In addition to the red cards totals shown below, whilst as an unused sub, Ian was sent-off after 73 minutes of Lincoln City's League Two game against Cheltenham Town on 14 November 2009 for violent conduct.
