McGuckin joined Oxford United in the 2000 close season and featured regularly for them in the opening games of the campaign before being sidelined by injury at the end of September. He made a brief return in the new year but will be hoping to make a full return to fitness in time for the start of the 2001-02. At his best he is a commanding central defender who is quick for such a big man.
