Ian Marshall

Originally signed on a weekly contract at the start of last season by Bolton boss Sam Allardyce, such was the quality of Ian's displays that this soon turned into a season-long agreement. He proved an invaluable member of the first-team squad, although often used from the substitutes' bench, proving that he could still handle the pace of First Division football with his 13 league starts. Providing cover in the centre of defence and as a striker, Ian was as consistent as any Wanderers' player last year. Strong in the tackle and very good at holding the ball when in possession, he added some steel to the side when it was most needed. He also chipped in with a few goals when required, including two in the game at Stockport. A favourite with the fans, he moved on to Second Division Blackpool in January 2002 and announced his retirement following the Tangerines success in the LDV Vans Trophy Final against Cambridge United at the Millennium Stadium.
