This skilful right wing back began 2000-01 at Northampton Town but was quickly snapped up by First Division Sheffield Wednesday where he quickly made the right back position his own.
His influence was such that he was clearly missed when absent through injury and he contributed two goals including a 25-yard deflected free kick that earned the Owls a point against local rivals Sheffield United in December.
Ian reads the game well and is very composed on the ball, using his dribbling talents to play his way out of defence.
Ian was released by the Owls in January 2003 and joined Peterborough United on a non-contract basis, subsequently confirmed as a deal to the end of the term.
Following their return to the Football League, Ian's contract at Barnet was extended to June 2007 in April 2005.
