Ian Gray

A product of the Oldham Athletic Academy and he signed as a professional in July 1993. He was behind Paul Gerrard and John Hallworth so went on loan to Rochdale to gain some first team experience. He joined the club on a perminent basis in July 1995 after failing to appear for Oldham's first team for £ 20,000. He was first choice until an injury suffered in December ruled him out of the rest of the 1995-1996 season. He was an ever presetnt in 1996-1997 and began attracting the attention of several clubs. He moved to Stockport County for July 1997 for a fee of £ 200,000. After only three starts in 1997-1998 he lost his place to Eric Nixon and remained as second choic efor the rest of the season. He was deputy to Carlo Nash in 1999-2000 he was picked up on a free transfer when his contract ran out by Rotherham in July 2000. An excellent shot stopper, Ian had missed just one game for Rotherham in 2000-2001 before picking up an injury in February and from then on he had a battle on his hands with Paul Pettinger for the number one spot. He made a superb penalty-kick save to earn a point at Bristol Rovers but suffered a slight dip in form as the campaign reached its climax. He kept three successive clean sheets on two occasions during the season.

Ian joined Huddersfield Town in July 2003 on a two-year contract but was forced to announce his retirement in December 2004.
