Burdened with the tag of the new Paul Gascoigne, it wasn't until he departed for Preston North End that the best was seen of the stocky midfielder.

An immensely talented midfielder, Ian joined Kidderminster on the eve of the 2000-01 campaign but it took a while for him to settle in as he struggled to pick up fitness. As the season progressed he was then hampered by a back injury and found himself in and out of the side. He was then transfer-listed in January and eventually released from his contract in March when he returned to the North-East.
