Armstrong represented England at Under-15, Under-16 and Under-18 levels. Blessed with an abundance of pace and skill and with an excellent overall scoring record. He was a regular for Liverpool's Under-19 side during the 2000-01 season and played for the first team's friendly against Runcorn in October 2000.
