Although born in South Africa Hans has spent most of his life in his parent's homeland Holland.
He began his career at RKC Waalwijk in 1988-89 but left in 1991-92 to play one season at FC Wageningen and then one season at FC Den Bosch before returning to RKC Waalwijk for the 1993-94 season.
He had three more successful seasons at the club before leaving in the summer of 1996 to sign for his current club SC Herenveen.
He was bought to the notice of the South African football authorities by the press and made his international debut in May 1998 against Zambia and kept his place for the 1998 World Cup Finals going on to appear in all three of the games.
