'Ham the Man' struggled to score goals for Middlesbrough in the first half of the 2000-01 campaign, although ironically on the one occasion that he did find the net, in the Worthington Cup game against Macclesfield, he actually scored a hat-trick. However he turned things round after Christmas to net six goals and thus finish second-top scorer for the season.
Despite a rather languid style this striker is quite lethal around the box and has scored some remarkable goals, ably assisted by his acceleration from a standing start and an ability to flight the ball with deceptive speed. His penalty kicks too are almost casual, yet invariably successful. He almost strolls up to the spot before launching the ball which is soon wrapped up in the net about to be retrieved by some unfortunate keeper.
