Pearce had few opportunities at Chesterfield in the 2000-01 campaign and spent much of the time out on loan at Unibond League club Worksop Town. He returned to be plunged into the cauldron of a Third Division title decider at Brighton, where he shadowed Bobby Zamora with great dedication and skill. He is an extremely promising centre half and it is hoped that the Spireites will be able to hold on to him despite their financial problems.
