Lincoln City's longest-serving player experienced both the high and low points of his career during his 11th season at Sincil Bank. Although normally a right-sided player, he filled in as a left-sided central defender during the first half of the campaign.

Grant broke a club record when he made his 425th senior appearance against Morecambe in the LDV Vans Trophy in November but two months later his season came to an end when he suffered a double fracture of the left leg in a local 'derby' clash with Hull City. By the start of May 2001, he was back in light training.
