Joining the junior team in February 1959 Gordon had a serious knee operation whilst only 15, and signed professional forms in August 1960. He could not break into the first team but went on to have a distinguished career at Leyton Orient, Norwich City, Charlton Athletic and Millwall before injury forced his retirement in April 1975.
