Massively popular with the Leicester City faithful, Gerry did not have quite the same impact in 2000-01 as he had managed in 1999- 2000.
He was troubled by a knee injury in the early weeks of the campaign but nevertheless managed to net the winner against Southampton and also scored to put City back into the UEFA tie against Red Star Belgrade.
However, after that his season became more patchy as further injuries intervened, including groin, buttock and hip strains.
He did, however, gain his 50th full cap for Northern Ireland during the campaign and was made captain for the night to mark the occasion, although Norway rather spoiled the party by winning the World Cup qualifier 4-0 in Belfast.
He subsequently took over the Foxes' captaincy after Matt Elliott was injured.
A solid left-footed central defender he is always willing to get stuck in when the chips are down.
After a loan spell, Gerry joined Stoke City in February 2004 with a contract to the end of the season that was extended to June 2005 in August 2004.
