This experienced goalkeeper began his career with Ferro Carril Oeste before joining River Plate in 1994. It was here that he established himself as a top-class keeper, gaining a winners medal in the Copa Libertadores in 1996 and sharing duties with his current rival for the national jersey, Roberto Bonano, in 1996-97 when River Plate won a double of the Apertura and Closura domestic titles. He subsequently moved to RCD Mallorca in 1999 before switching to Atletico Madrid in 2001. German won his first cap for Argentina against Peru in May 1995 and has now appeared over 30 times for his country.
