Having previously played in Holland for FC Twente, VVV Venlo,Roda JC and Ajax, Gerald had an excellent season with Sheffield Wednesday in 2000-01.

He put the disappointment of relegation from the Premiership behind him to produce some fine displays and win over the Hillsborough fans.

He finished top scorer with 15 league and cup goals and his hat-trick against Queens Park Rangers in December was one of the highlights of the campaign.

Tall and skilful, he often played in a midfield role rather than as a striker and Owls' fans were hoping that he would become the play maker that the team had lacked for several years.
