Linking with Jackie Milburn and Bobby Mitchell, from a most unlikely background, George become part of arguably the most feared attacking formation in British football. A personal highlight was the FA Cup Final in 1952 when his late winner meant Newcastle were the first club to retain the cup in 61 years. He had also equalled Hughie Gallacher's club record of 39 goals in a season.
