Although still involved on the playing side at Barnsley in 2000-01, Geoff was given the job of coaching the reserve team from the start of the season.
Despite being used almost exclusively as a substitute he continued to do a decent job for the team, coming on to provide extra backbone to the midfield.
However he reverted to his former role as a player under new boss Nigel Spackman, receiving limited opportunities before moving on to Notts County on a short-term contract at the beginning of March.
Required to help resolve an injury crisis at Meadow Lane, he approached the task in his usual wholehearted fashion but nevertheless he was released by the Magpies at the end of the campaign.
Geoff started his career at Littleborough before joining Crewe Alexandra.
