As a player Geoff began with his hometown club Middlesbrough in 1964 and transferred to Chelsea in 1967.
Six months later, he was on the move again to Sunderland where he played until joining Norwich City in the summer of 1968.
He spent the best years of his career at Carrow Road before he moved on to AFC Bournemouth after seven years in 1975.
He joined initially as a player and then became player-coach until 1982.
A season with Peterborough United in the same capacity followed before he took charge at Salisbury in 1983.
In all, he played in 378 Football League matches.
Incredibly, he remained at Salisbury until 2001 when he left in contentious circumstances having achieved a record as the longest serving manager in football.
He was also managing director of the club.
With a wealth of experience behind him, he was a valuable asset to any club.
