Mahon began the 2000-01 campaign playing in a familiar midfield role, but injuries led to him switching to centre back where he produced some excellent performances and attracted the attention of a number of scouts from higher clubs.
He is a skilful player, comfortable with either foot and has a useful shot.
He scored his only goal of the campaign with a 40-yard drive in the 2-1 win at Bristol City in December and later in the season won a runners-up medal in the LDV Vans Trophy when he appeared for the Bees in the Final at Cardiff when they were narrowly defeated by Port Vale.
Mahon's contract at Watford was extended to June 2007 in October 2004.
After being released by Queens Park Rangers at the end of the 2009-10 season, he was re-signed in October 2010 on a monthly contract.
Mahon joined Notts County in August 2011 with a five-month contract that was extended to June 2012 in October 2011 and then to June 2013.
He joined Portsmouth in October 2013 with a monthly contract.
