A right back or central defender, Gary became Peter Taylor's first, and arguably most effective, signing after he took over as manager of Leicester City in the summer of 2000.
Arriving for a fee that equalled the then club record, he slotted neatly into a back three alongside Matt Elliott and Gerry Taggart, and quickly adapted to life in the Premiership once more. He even found time to pop up with some crucial goals: a left-foot volley to break the deadlock in the FA Cup tie with York City, a close range effort to claim the winner at home to Chelsea and a low drive from a half-cleared corner against Tottenham Hotspur.
Gary announced his retirement in July 2004 due to a knee injury before making a comeback in the Conference at Burton Albion.
