Gary Jones missed the first two games of the 2000-01 campaign through suspension, but thereafter was a fixture in Rochdale's midfield.
Undoubtedly the side's most improved player, and a huge favourite with the fans, he was at the hub of everything covering every blade of grass and contesting every tackle week-in, week-out.
He also contributed a major share of goals, especially when the strikers were going through a lean spell.
Gary followed his former Dale boss Steve Parkin to Barnsley in November 2001 but was made available for transfer by the Tykes in October 2003.
After an initial loan spell, Gary returned to Rochdale in February 2004 with a contract to June 2005.
His Dale contract was extended to June 2009 in January 2007 then to June 2011 in May 2009.
Gary joined Bradford City in July 2012 with a one-year contract that was extended to June 2014 in June 2013.
He joined Notts County in August 2014 with a one-year contract.
