Hobson joined York City from Chester in July 2000 but had a frustrating time in his first season at Bootham Crescent. He impressed at the heart of the defence in the early games but was then sidelined by a knee injury that required surgery and it was not until the closing weeks of the campaign that he returned to take a place on the subs' bench. He is a left-footed defender who can play either as a centre half or left back.
