This young Blackburn prospect joined Rochdale on loan as cover last August and made a handful of appearances from the subs' bench before returning to Ewood Park where he made his senior debut for Rovers in the Worthington Cup tie against Portsmouth. He subsequently went down with a back injury then fell out of favour with the management at Ewood Park and after being informed he would be released at the end of the campaign he had a two-match trial at Wigan in the new year. Gary is a promising striker with the knack of being in the right place at the right time but still needs to work on his finishing. He continued to represent Northern Ireland at U21 level winning seven further caps during the season.
