Injuries and the competition for places in defence made the 2000-01 campaign another indifferent season for Gary at Ipswich Town.
He was in the starting line-up for the season's opener at Tottenham Hotspur but Fabian Wilnis then took over from him in the next game and Gary was unable to win his place back, apart from a couple of brief spells when Wilnis was injured.
However he did enough in these games to show that when fully fit he can still do a useful job for the team.
A talented defender, Gary joined Cardiff City on loan in March 2002 and, despite dropping down to Division Two, was pleased to complete a permanent move to Ninian Park in the summer.
Gary joined Grimsby Town in August 2005 with a one-year contract that was extended to June 2007 in June 2006.
He joined Lincoln City in July 2007 with a one-year contract.
