Hanmer was in and out of the Shrewsbury team in 2000-01 partly as a result of being affected by injuries and partly through being out of favour. He is a left-sided defender who is very effective pushing forward and can deliver quality crosses into the box. He was released by manager Kevin Ratcliffe in the summer but quickly snapped up by non-league Telford United.
