Griffiths joined Port Vale from Rhyl. This tall and imposing central defender again found first-team opportunities at a premium for Wigan Athletic in the 2000-01 season.
Tremendously strong in the air, he proved an invaluable squad member despite being affected by niggling injuries. He scored his only goal of the campaign with a header in the 1-1 draw at Rotherham United in November. Griffiths was released in the summer when his contract expired and joined Rochdale. He extended his stay at Spotland for a further year in June 2005.
