Blunstone signed from Crewe Alexandria and proved to be one of Chelsea's best ever signings. He had a distinguished career despite breaking his leg twice and missing the whole of the 1957-58 season. A close dribbling winger he was a member of the first Championship-winning side and won promotion from the Second Division in 1962-63. Injury on a team tour of the Caribbean in the summer of 1964 led to his premature retirement from playing in June of that year. He also played cricket for Cheshire.
