He began his career at Nacional before a move to Italy and Cagliari for the 1995-1996 season. His career was interrupted by injury but Juventus signed him as cover for Zinadine Zidane for the 2000-2001 season, but after he left for Real Madrid he could not break into the first team. He left for Perugia in January 2002 in an attempt to make the World Cup Finals. He made his debut in the qualifying stages and his performances playing just behind the centre forwards.
