After being left out of the Ipswich Town line-up for the opening game of 2000-01, Fabian made his Premiership debut in the home game with Manchester United.
He got off to a fine start and it was his goal, a superb low drive after he exchanged passes with David Johnson, which gave him and the team the confidence that they could do well in this division.
He maintained his position as the right back or wing back for most of the season, scoring once more - an injury-time header from Martijn Reuser's cross to secure the points in the 1-0 win at Coventry City.
He gave the team extra attacking options with his ability to push down the right flank and deliver an excellent cross, while defensively not many opponents got the better of him.
Fabian's contract at Ipswich Town was extended to June 2006 in July 2005, then to June 2007 in March 2006 and to June 2008 in May 2007.
